Evidence-Informed Approaches

Approaches we may draw on

Your clinician chooses an approach, or a mix, with you, based on your goals and what suits your situation.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a well-researched approach for anxiety. It helps you notice anxious thoughts, question how accurate they are, and gradually change the patterns that keep anxiety going.

WorryPanicAvoidance

Exposure-Based Therapy (Exposure)

Step-by-step exposure helps you face feared situations in a supported way, so avoidance eases and your confidence can grow over time.

PhobiasSocial AnxietyOCD

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT helps you relate differently to anxious thoughts, so they hold less grip, while you build a life around your values rather than your fears.

Questions & Answers

Everything you want to know

Can telehealth therapy help with anxiety?

Yes, for many people. Many people find telehealth therapy works well for them and value being able to attend from a private space of their choosing. Telehealth is not suitable for every concern. Your clinician may recommend in-person care, a GP review or a referral where appropriate.

Do I need a GP referral?

No referral is needed to start. You can book directly through Synapsea. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may be able to claim Medicare rebates on up to 10 sessions a year. We can help you understand the options.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the type of anxiety and your goals. Some people work on a focused goal over several sessions. Individual experiences vary, and a session does not guarantee a particular outcome. Your clinician will review progress with you and share honest suggestions along the way.

Can therapy help with panic?

Yes. CBT can help with panic. Therapy helps you understand the cycle of panic, ease the fear of the physical signs, and gradually build confidence in situations that have felt overwhelming.
