Our Approach

What shapes our approach

Synapsea is built around the things that matter most when you reach out for support.

Evidence-informed care

The approaches we use are grounded in established clinical research. These include CBT, ACT, Schema and more.

Self-referral welcome

You can book your first session directly. If you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, a Medicare rebate may apply to eligible therapy sessions. Eligibility is determined by Medicare. Coaching and ADHD assessments are not covered by Medicare.

Your clinician

Your therapy and assessment are provided by your clinician, qualified to deliver evidence-informed care.

Fully telehealth

Sessions happen over secure video. You can join from home or any private space that suits you. There is no waiting room and no commute.

Confidential & secure

Your sessions and health records are handled in line with the Australian Privacy Principles and kept confidential.

Built around you

You don't have to figure it out alone

Wherever you are starting from, support is here. You can book a first session online, with one clinician who stays with you.

Book a First Session

Individual experiences vary, and a session or assessment does not guarantee a particular outcome. Telehealth is not suitable for every concern. Your clinician may recommend in-person care, a GP review or a referral where appropriate. Synapsea is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or 000. We do not advertise specific prescription medicines to the public in accordance with Australian regulatory requirements.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a GP referral to access Synapsea?
No referral is needed. You can reach out and book your first session directly. If you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, a Medicare rebate may apply to eligible therapy sessions. Eligibility is determined by Medicare. Coaching and ADHD assessments are not covered by Medicare. We will explain what applies to you when you enquire.
What's the difference between therapy and coaching?
Individual therapy is a clinical service provided by your clinician. It offers support with concerns such as anxiety, low mood, trauma and ADHD. Professional coaching is non-clinical. It focuses on performance, goals and follow-through, and it does not diagnose or treat health conditions. If you're unsure which fits, get in touch and we'll help you choose.
How does the ADHD assessment work?
The ADHD assessment is a clinical assessment, conducted by telehealth over a live video consultation, usually across one or two sessions. Your clinician reviews your history, uses validated rating scales, and gathers further information where relevant. It is a genuine conversation, not a quick form. You'll receive a plain-language written report. An assessment explores ADHD with you. It does not guarantee a diagnosis or a prescription.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your goals and circumstances, and timeframes vary from person to person. Some people work with us for a short while, and others prefer longer-term support. Your clinician will talk this through with you in your first session and review progress with you over time. There are no lock-in contracts. You're free to pause or stop at any time.
Is your clinician qualified and registered?
Yes. Your therapy and ADHD assessment are provided by your clinician. Coaching is non-clinical and draws on relevant professional qualifications and coaching credentials. You can verify your clinician's registration on the national register of health practitioners.
