Getting Started
You do not always need a referral to begin. You can book a first session directly. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, a Medicare rebate may apply to eligible therapy sessions. Coaching and ADHD assessments are not covered by Medicare. We will explain what applies to you when you get in touch.
Your clinician works with a range of areas of support. These include anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, trauma and PTSD, and sleep disorders. Therapy helps you understand what is going on and build practical steps forward. Coaching is a separate, non-clinical service that helps you build focus, follow-through and goals at work. If you are not sure what fits, get in touch and we will give you an honest answer.
Getting started is simple. Send us a message through the contact page and tell us a little about what you are looking for. We will reply and talk you through the next step. You can book a first session when you feel ready. There is no pressure to commit before then.
Sessions happen live over video, so it is a genuine conversation from a place that suits you. Many people find it easier to open up from their own space. Telehealth is not suitable for every concern. Your clinician may recommend in-person care, a GP review or a referral where appropriate.
The Sessions
Each session is a structured conversation between you and your clinician. Therapy sessions draw on evidence-informed approaches, such as CBT or ACT. Coaching sessions are more goal-focused and action-oriented. You will always know what to expect. Your clinician guides the session and leaves plenty of space for what matters most to you on the day.
Standard sessions run for about 50 minutes. A first session may run a little longer as your clinician gets to understand your background and goals. ADHD assessment sessions can vary in length depending on what is involved. You will be told the structure before you begin.
Yes. Synapsea is a sole-practitioner practice, so you work with the same clinician across therapy, coaching and assessment. That means continuity of care. Nothing gets lost in a handover, and you are never just a number in a pool.
Sessions are delivered through a secure, encrypted telehealth platform. There is no app to download. You will receive a private link before each session that works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or mobile. The platform meets Australian health data requirements.
Between sessions you can message us about admin questions. Messages are not monitored continuously and are not for urgent help. If you are in crisis, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or 000.
ADHD
An ADHD assessment is a clinical assessment carried out through a live video consultation with your clinician. It includes a detailed conversation about your history, validated rating scales, and information from a partner, parent or close contact where available. It is a genuine conversation, not a quick online form. Your clinician works with you to understand the full picture.
The assessment usually takes place across one or two telehealth sessions. The exact structure depends on your history and what is involved. You will be talked through how it works before you begin.
No. An assessment explores what may be going on with focus and attention. It does not guarantee a particular outcome, a diagnosis or a prescription. Your clinician will share the findings with you and talk through what they mean. Individual experiences vary, and an assessment does not guarantee a particular outcome.
Your clinician will walk you through the findings and recommendations in a feedback session. You will receive a plain-language written report. Depending on the findings, this may include a referral to your GP or a specialist, or therapeutic strategies for managing focus and attention day to day. You will leave with a clear next step.
Pricing
We share our fees upfront, before you book. Individual Therapy sessions start from $180. Professional Coaching sessions start from $160. ADHD Assessment pricing depends on what is involved and is shared when you enquire. There are no hidden costs. You will know what to expect from the start.
A Medicare rebate may apply to eligible therapy sessions if you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, subject to your Medicare eligibility. A standard plan covers up to 10 sessions a calendar year. Coaching and ADHD assessments are not covered by Medicare. Some private health funds also offer a rebate for psychology sessions, so it is worth checking your policy. We provide an itemised receipt after each session so you can claim where it applies.
No. The session fee covers your clinical time. There are no joining fees or subscription costs. We ask for reasonable notice if you need to cancel, usually 24 hours. You will know exactly what you are paying before you book anything.
Synapsea does not offer bulk billing. We are a private service and fees apply to all sessions. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you may be able to claim a Medicare rebate on eligible therapy sessions after paying, subject to your Medicare eligibility, which offsets part of the cost. Coaching and ADHD assessments are not covered by Medicare. We are clear about this so you can make an informed decision before you start.
