Everything you want to know
What does an ADHD assessment involve?
The assessment is a live video conversation with your clinician over one to two sessions. Your clinician takes a detailed history, uses validated ADHD rating scales, and looks at supporting information and other possible explanations. This is a clinical assessment, not a questionnaire. You receive a written report with the findings and suggested next steps.
Will the assessment lead to a diagnosis or medication?
An assessment explores whether ADHD may explain what you are experiencing. It does not guarantee a diagnosis or a prescription. If you and your clinician discuss medication, any decision about it sits with your GP or psychiatrist, who make their own clinical judgement. The report gives them helpful information for that conversation.
Is this assessment suitable for adults?
Yes. This assessment is for adults aged 18 and over. ADHD often goes unrecognised until adulthood, particularly for women and people without obvious hyperactivity. Understanding it later in life can bring clarity.
Do I need a GP referral?
ADHD assessments are privately billed and are not covered under Better Access Medicare rebates. No referral is needed to book; we will explain fees and next steps when you enquire.
What happens if ADHD is not identified?
Your clinician still provides a written report explaining the findings, any other explanations considered, and suggested next steps. Individual experiences vary, and an assessment does not guarantee a particular outcome. Many people find this clarity valuable either way.
Is telehealth right for my assessment?
The assessment runs as a live video session, so it is a genuine conversation from a place that suits you. Telehealth is not suitable for every concern. Your clinician may recommend in-person care, a GP review or a referral where that is the better path.
